Eligibility

The homeowner must hold a non-FHA adjustable rate mortgage (ARM). Must have a strong credit history and have been making timely mortgage payments before interest reset. The interest rate must reset between June 2005 and Dec. 2009. There must currently be at least 3% cash or equity in the house. Homeowner must be able to show sustained history of employment, and must document sufficient income to make the future mortgage payments.

Application process

A list of FHA-approved lenders is available through web link or FHA Resource Center. Applicant should check with lenders to verify their participation. Those who do not have access to a computer or who wish to discuss the program with a counselor can call the agency Housing Counseling Referral line, for the phone number of an approved counseling agency which serves their area.
