Eligibility

To file for a marriage license, must be at least age 18 or older and a resident of Ross County. If applicant is not a resident of the county, must get married in Ross County. If an applicant is under age 18, check website for requirements.

Required documents

State ID (Ohio) or driver's license for both bride and groom. Must present each and every divorce decree from previous marriages. If previous spouse is deceased, must present a copy of the death certificate.

By appointment. Appointments are available M-F: 8:30am-2:30pm, except recognized legal holidays.

Description

Issues and maintains marriage licenses and provides certified copies of marriage licenses. Licenses are valid for 60 days from the date of issuance and are issued at the time of application. Marriage licenses are public record.

Probate: Court with jurisdiction over matters such as probate of wills, estates, the issuance of marriage licenses, adoption proceedings, determination of sanity or mental competence, name changes and adult and juvenile guardianship. Juvenile: Hears cases involving the delinquency of persons under eighteen years of age, and cases dealing with unruly, abused, neglected, and dependent children. Also hears all traffic offenses committed by persons under eighteen years of age, and has jurisdiction in adult cases involving paternity, child abuse, nonsupport, and failure to send children to school.
