Eligibility

When free car seats are vailable, a class is required to receive the seats. To receive free seats, the participant must be enrolled in some type of public assistance program (WIC, Medicaid, HEAP, SSI, etc.). Service is provided only once. Must have a car in order to install car seat after class. No restrictions for Car Seat Inspection Stations. Speakers provided to groups of 20 or more.

Required documents

For low-cost seats: photo I.D. and proof of enrollment in a public assistance program required such as Medicaid card, assistance check, WIC, OWF, HEAP, Food Stamps. None required for car seat inspections.

Hours

Required safety class is offered virtually at a variety of times. Car seat inspections offered M-F: 9:00am-4:00pm at main site. Recorded telephone information offered 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. Speaker times vary.

Application process

For the Car Seat Distribution Program: phone recorded information line 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week for instructions on how to register. Classes are virtual, but if For free car seat inspections, pre-registration required : phone 24 hrs a day, 7 days a week. To request a speaker, phone Injury Prevention Specialist at least 5 weeks in advance M-F: 8:00am-5:00pm.

Fees

Fixed fee for child car seats or booster seats (Price/Cost information is on the phone recording when the caller registers). Car Seat Inspections are free. Occasionally a limited number of car seats may be free.

Description

Provides classes about the installation and use of child car seats and booster seats. Class participants are offered low cost child car seats and booster seats at the end of the program while supplies lasts. Also provides a recorded information line that offers tips on correct car seat/booster installation, recall information, selection, and other related information. Provides car seat inspections where certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians inspect child car seats and booster seats to ensure safe and secure installation. Will provide informed speakers who can present information on child seats and booster seats to groups.
