Provides a Municipal Court for the City of Garfield Heights. Jurisdiction also includes Brecksville, Cuyahoga Heights, Independence, Maple Heights, Newburgh Heights, Walton Hills and Valley View. Small Claims Court is the division of the Garfield Heights Municipal Court that hears cases up to $6000 in value. Claims that do not involve money damages are not heard in Small Claims Court (Complaints seeking the return of property, or an order requiring a party to perform a certain act, must be filed in the Civil Division). Small Claims examples: failure to repay a loan, fix a car or appliance properly, return a security deposit, or meet the terms of a service contract -- for example, properly remodel a kitchen or install a new roof.
