As Mental Health America of Ohio, we continue to strengthen our presence at the Ohio Statehouse, actively speaking out on vital mental health care policies and informing policy decision makers. Our Board level Public Policy Committee, which includes representatives of other Ohio Mental Health America affiliates, establishes an annual mental health public policy action agenda for MHAOhio to execute.

Provides a personal advocate for each youth who spends an average of 15 hours per week assisting the youth in educational, vocational employment and/or recreational programs; offers a positive adult role model. This program's services are offered for youth in their own homes as well as youth placed in agency's foster homes.

Provides individual and systems advocacy for persons with disabilities.

Trained volunteers provide emotional support, crisis intervention and referral information over the telephone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to survivors of sexual violence, co-survivors and the community. Also offer long-term advocacy and support to survivors and co-survivors who need assistance working with law enforcement and navigating the criminal justice system.

Provides advocacy and support to tenants throughout Ohio. Offers information on rental rights, fair housing, housing advocacy and tenant organizing. Also provides tenants legal advice concerning landlord/tenant issues. Primary focus is on tenants living in federally assisted housing (Project-based Section 8, Low Income Housing Tax Credits and Rural Housing Service 515 properties), but staff will try to be of service to any Ohioan with questions about their housing rights.

Provides safe, confidential shelter and services to victims of domestic violence and sexual abuse and their children in Pickaway County and offers crisis intervention, case management, legal advocacy, referrals, support groups, individual counseling and more. All services are free and confidential.

Provides assistance for individuals with disabilities who are having difficulty understanding and/or obtaining the full benefits and services to which they are entitled by law. Also provides civil rights advocacy regarding accessibility issues and Fair Housing.

Provides information and referral services as a department of the Mansfield/Richland County Public Library. Database of information includes government, non-profit, and social service organizations. Additional services include: * Directory assistance * Time, temperature, and weather information * Post disaster reporting * Faxing and copying services (free for social service needs) * Printing travel directions

Provides advocacy and support for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking.

Provides information and referral service, placement and coordination, crisis intervention, advocacy, major unusual incident reporting and investigating, and service monitoring for agency clients. In addition, assists families with special expenses that may be involved with having a developmentally disabled family member at home.

Provides guidance to families of individuals with developmental disabilities to help resolve issues and navigate the developmental disability system. Offers support and resources to both individuals and family members. Assists with advocacy, planning, and support. NOTE: Service is not limited to school advocacy.

Turning Point provides up-to-date programming regarding healthy relationships and dating violence to local students, staff, parents and community members. Presentations have been developed in compliance with House Bill 19 which requires dating violence education in middle and high school health classes and education regarding the issue to teachers, administrators, counselors, nurses and psychologists.

Provides counseling for individuals staying in shelter and outreach counseling for non-residential individuals. Services include short term crisis intervention counseling, education, and case management.

Work with Individuals with disabilities to train and develop personal strengths, master living skills, overcome barriers, and utilize technologies and resources allowing them to continue living independently and productively within their home and community. The agency strives to train in the areas of assistive technologies, and work with suppliers to advocate for and represent our consumers. We also do a minimal amount of direct services.

Provides direct advocacy services to survivors and co-survivors of relationship and sexual violence who are deaf, deaf blind, and hard of hearing. Offers community, legal, social service and hospital advocacy. Clients are seen in safe community setting.

The program offers assistance to crime victims and witnesses, and provides advocacy services to adult or child victims of physical abuse, sexual abuse and to the famiies of homicide victims.

At the Guadalupe Center, we provide services including a food pantry, English as a Second Language (ESL) classes, nutrition classes, preventative health screenings, legal and immigration consultations and referrals, and comprehensive case management. To help the Hispanic community eliminate barriers to employment stability, counselors work with individuals to assess job skills and potentials, provide 30+ hours of classroom education to build job interviewing/application skills and better understand American workplace expectations, help in job placement, and provide follow-up/job retention support. Services also include English as a Second Language (ESL) and career development counseling.

OFCA educates Ohio’s policymakers about the needs of abused, neglected and dependent children and the resource families that care for them; testifies before legislative committees on pending legislation which impacts resource families; and represents resource families and primary families at state agency meetings held in which regulatory changes are being considered.

Providing a vital link between the criminal justice system and community services, CHOICES' Legal Advocates walk individuals through an often overwhelming court system, assisting with filing criminal charges and obtaining protection orders. Legal advocates gather information, offer support and comfort, and above all, listen.

The Long-term Care Ombudsman office is the voice for consumers of long-term care services. Ombudsmen serve as: mediators between clients and service providers; as a source of education and information; and advocates for consumer rights and needs improvements.
