NYAP specializes in therapeutic foster care to meet the needs of older youth and adolescents with emotional and behavioral challenges and those with specialized medical needs. Services include the provision of safe, supportive, nurturing living arrangements in licensed foster homes. A primary focus of services is the preservation of and connection to family through visitation between the youth and their family, and strong involvement of the family in the care and treatment of their child.

Offers adoption, foster care, and therapeutic foster care services for youth. Provides behavioral and mental health services for those within NYAP’s Foster Care programs. Also provides extensive training and support for fostering parents.

The purpose of the Adult Foster Home Program is to assist aged, blind & disabled adults who need some assistance or supervision but do not require skilled nursing care. Residents receive help with personal care to remain in the community in a safe and supervised environment. Adult Foster Home providers are individuals or families with the desire and ability to help others. Providers share their home and family life with either one or two residents. Being a provider involves a commitment to provide room, meals, accommodations and personal care to the residents living in the home. Adult Foster Homes must conform to prescribed guidelines on space, furnishings, nutrition, safety and cleanliness. Caregivers may have to reconfigure their homes in order to meet such guidelines designed to protect both the operator and the resident.

COAD provides free child care referrals for individuals looking for child care services. COAD has trained counselors to complete and intake with families that will provide the best options for the needs of the families. COAD helps improve the quality of child care in the same 10 county. Staff assist individuals opening a child care program, looking for to star rated or increase a rating. COAD will help individuals walk through the licensing process of becoming a foster family in the same 10 county region. COAD offers parenting wisely parent education classes.

Seeks and screens families who will adopt or provide foster care for children who have come into the custody of a public agency due to abuse or neglect. Provides information, education, and support for those who wish to provide foster care or adopt. Conducts evaluations and home studies of prospective adoptive and/or foster families.

JFS can provide information about the different types of adoption or foster care that are available as options and the requirements and procedures for adopting or fostering another individual. JFS also links individuals who are in need of alternative living arrangements with appropriate private family homes that are licensed to provide foster care.
