LCCH is looking for volunteers to help with the 2025 tax filing season. Volunteers are asked to commit to at least one 4-hour session per week, for the 11 week filing season. The key skills required are: a basic understanding of the tax filing process, familiarity with computers and the ability to relate to clients. Intake volunteers are required to pass an IRS ethics test. Tax preparers are required to pass an IRS certification test at either the basic or advanced level. LCCH will provide tax law and software training during the month of January 2026. The filing season will begin the last week of January and run through April 15. Volunteers will be able to choose the site location and volunteer shift that best fit their schedule. Both drop-off and in-person preparation styles will be used this year.

Actively seeking Veterans of the United States of America Armed Services to be mentors to Veterans for the Summit County Valor Court.

The volunteers (Bigs) have contact with the youth (Littles) twice a month for a period of at least one year. The volunteer and child participate in social and recreational activities such as watching movies, talking on the phone, bicycling, or just running errands. Professional caseworkers are available to provide advice and support.

Volunteer mentors for the Lunch Buddy Program are welcome. The Lunch Buddy Program is an adult and child mentoring, academic support program starting in the fourth grade. Mentors meet with their student once a month for lunch.

M.A.V. Youth Mentoring fosters supportive relationships between adult role models and youth. Adults and youth will meet two to three times per month to do activities such as shooting hoops, playing a board game, sharing a pizza, taking a walk in the park, etc. The schedule can be flexible to meet the needs of the mentors and their youths.

The Senior Medicare Patrol (SMP) program provides an opportunity for seniors to step up and make an impact in the fight against fraud. Our Fraud Fighter volunteers help empower Ohioans against Medicare fraud and work to ensure that the Medicare program will be protected now and for generations to come.

Volunteer opportunity to assist Knox county residents with their income tax preparations. This is a web-based, counselor-assisted program. Volunteers are needed to assist as tax preparation counselors. As a tax counselor, you will receive one day of training, after which you will be asked to assist clients with tax preparation throughout the tax season at the United Way office. You will be able to determine a schedule that works best for you. Counselors must be comfortable working with a computer, but need not have a background in tax preparation.

Provides volunteer opportunities for those interested in working alongside residents and staff performing daily work duties including food preparation, garden and grounds maintenance, and care for horses. May also assist with transporting residents, running errands, and offering recreational or educational activities. A living stipend is provided to full time volunteers (40 hrs per week or more) who live on the property.

Youth mentoring services volunteer opportunities are available.

Volunteers serve as mentors to children ages 6 to 16. Mentors spend a minimum of four (4) hours each week with the child. Mentors make a minimum of a one (1) year commitment to the program.

Provides volunteer opportunities for those interested in helping with office/clerical duties, yard and grounds maintenance, fund raising activities, recreation and sports related activities, child care, and being a front desk greeter. There are also limited opportunities to help with communications and marketing, as well as assisting with computer and Internet needs.

Provides information concerning Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and Guardians Ad Litem (GAL) who advocate for the best interests of children whose parents have become involved with the Juvenile Court due to issues of abuse, neglect, or dependency. CASA staff investigate the situation, conduct interviews with the family, then prepares reports for the Juvenile Court. Also offers training courses for community volunteers who wish to act in the role of the CASA.

Opportunities for volunteers include crisis line, legal advocacy, child advocacy, speaker's bureau, housekeeping and maintenance, donation pick-up, and sorting.

Provides volunteer opportunities to work with immigrants in a variety of roles. Volunteer opportunities may include being a part of a Welcome Team, driving instructor and teaching car care, English language instruction, interpretation services, cultural orientation, public transportation navigator, and so forth.

Trains and assigns court-appointed Guardians Ad Litem (GAL) for children whose parents are being prosecuted for abuse, neglect, or dependency. The GAL represents the child's best interest by performing an investigation and interviews of the child's family members, teachers, doctors, etc., then preparing a report for the Juvenile Court. The GAL will routinely visit the child's home once a month to monitor and assess the living situation.

Provides volunteer opportunities for those who wish to help in the efforts to reduce domestic violence and to serve the needs to victims of domestic violence

Actively seeking individuals who are willing, on a voluntary basis without remuneration, to work in all areas of service delivery, fundraising, leadership and governance.
