SEOLS provide assistance with landlord/tenant issues and disputes to low-income individuals.

Provides mediation and conflict resolution to tenants who are having a conflict or other issues with their landlord. Will help the client understand their rights as a tenant and advise on how to resolve the situation.

PHC provides comprehensive assistance for people who want to rent or purchase housing, information on fair housing and for tenants and/or landlords who are involved in rental housing disputes, or which administer state laws or local ordinances which govern rent control and other aspects of tenant/landlord relations.

Provides various methods of assistance for tenants with eviction issues: - Offers a hotline for individuals to receive eviction advice from an attorney. - Holds virtual clinics, by Zoom meeting, to provide general information on the eviction process and have questions answered by an attorney. - Provides an online toolkit to walk renters through the eviction process, help them prepare for court and provides template documents needed.

Evaluates cases related to problems with public and subsidized housing (Section 8, Housing Choice Voucher Program, buildings administered by the federal housing agency, and others) including: evictions; termination from subsidized housing programs; rent related matters or issues involving tenant groups, denial of applications for subsidized housing that are based on prior criminal history or a criminal background check; and claims for money damages related to tenancy.

Informs landlords and renters of their rights and responsibilities under the Ohio Landlord-Tenant Law. Provides information to help tenants fulfill their responsibilities when dealing with landlords who are not providing what was promised under the terms of rental leases.

Evaluates cases where tenant is being evicted and the tenant HAS A WRITTEN lease. The case must involve: - Tenant is living in a foreclosed property; or - Lease with an option to purchase, lease with an automatic renewal, or lease with at least four (4) months remaining on term; land installment contract. Will also evaluate eviction cases where there is NO WRITTEN LEASE but: - Tenant is living in a foreclosed property; or - Tenant alleges retaliation or discrimination. Will evaluate ALL cases involving: - Utility shut-offs and lock-outs; or - Child is found to have lead levels above five (5) micrograms per deciliter and Department of Health or landlord has not followed up; or - Manufactured/mobile homes. In all housing cases, applicant must apply for service and deliver papers to Legal Aid at least eight (8) days prior to hearing.

Depending on eligibility, may provide legal assistance in responding to an eviction notice from the local housing court. Service may include a court appearance and/or negotiation with a landlord.

Provides legal representation for eligible individuals who are in the process of being evicted from their homes. Assistance includes appearances at eviction hearings in housing court and negotiation with landlords in an effort to stop evictions.

Provides information in regards to Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher program compliance, policy changes, and the newest information from HUD.

Supports Ohio residents and organizations seeking guidance on a variety of housing issues: landlord-tenant law, the Fair Housing Act, tenant organization, and affordable housing preservation. Coordinates housing and homelessness information for the state of Ohio and works with local housing coalitions and organizations on grants and housing programs. *Cannot provide legal representation.

Assists with tenant/landlord, foreclosure, and other types of housing disputes with the goal of maintaining housing and preventing homelessness.

Provides free services to Hocking, Athens and Perry Counties to prevent discrimination in housing.
