The Caregiver Support Program offers free support for private individuals that provide care to an older loved one, friend or neighbor or for a Kinship Caregiver who is raising children that are not their own, such as a grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin or a family friend. Individual consultations, one-on-one skills training, speakers for any size groups, educational courses, lending library and literature help increase knowledge and ability to provide better care for a longer time. Care planning and subsidized case-managed assistance with professional in-home services are available to provide relief and safety for caregivers. AAA 9 offers support for caregivers and is your one-stop-shop for all your caregiving needs including: information and assistance, individual consultations, one-on-one skills training and a multi-media lending library. Speakers are available to inform your group about PASSPORT, aging issues, caregiving issues, aging advocacy or any other topic related to aging. Schedule an AAA 9 professional to speak to your employees, church groups, service organization or other groups free of charge. AAA 9 can also customize a workshop to educate caregivers on a number of topics including: “Stress and Burnout in Caregiving", “Living With Alzheimer's", and many others.

The Caregiver Support Program addresses the growing needs of informal caregivers providing care for loved ones at home. Services provided through this program include in-home caregiver training, one-on-one support by a case manager, information and caregiver referrals to community providers, legal services, and respite assistance. This program includes the following: Information + Referral Services provide information and referral to community based supports, including transportation, support groups, home health services, hospice, and health services. Planning Resources provide caregivers with resources and referrals for support regarding Living Wills, Health Care Power of Attorney, Durable Power of Attorney, and other legal questions. Medical Equipment Purchases to assist and compliment the care a caregiver provides. Medical equipment purchases are limited and determined by the program coordinator on a need basis. Purchases include but are not limited to linen savers, safety devices for doors and windows, and more. Project Lifesaver is a partnership with local law enforcement to provide search and rescue service, using radio technology to prevent or reduce the potential of harm to individuals suffering from Alzheimer’s, Down Syndrome, Autism, traumatic brain injuries, or other cognitive impairments who have a tendency to wander. Respite Care provides relief for the caregiver by arranging for services such as personal care, homemaking, or adult day services. This short-term assistance supports the well-being of caregivers as they balance their lives and caregiving responsibilities. The Caregiver Support program offers in-home training that includes a variety of topics related to caregiving.
