Investigates reports of abuse, neglect and exploitation of vulnerable older adults aged 60 and over in Pickaway County. Allegations of neglect also include self-neglect by an elderly person. When calls are received by APS, the case manager evaluates any risk to the safety and well-being of alleged victims. If they find that there is a risk, the case manager works with families, social service agencies and other community resources to meet the person’s needs and to improve the situation.

Provides guardianship and other decision-making supports for adults with developmental disabilities who are unable to provide informed consent, represent themselves, or manage their own affairs. Guardianships are for persons declared incompetent by the court and unable to manage their affairs. Will help investigate the need for services for those who feel they may be eligible. Maintains an on-call system for timely responses to emergency medical situations by providing informed consent.

Investigates the need for a guardian or a conservator and appoints guardians and grants conservatorships. Guardianship is for persons who are deemed by the court as incapable of managing their own person and/or affairs (minors and incompetent adults).
